Microneedling, also referred to as Collagen Induction Therapy, is a break through remedy for the treatment of wrinkles and pigmentation, scars (including burn scars, acne scars and surgical scars) and stretch marks. A device with fine needles creates tiny punctures in the top layer of the skin, which stimulate the body’s natural defenses to repair and produce concentrated amounts of collagen and proteins to the treated areas of skin. This results in the skins thickness being increased, smoothing scars, visibly reducing stretch marks and reducing the appearance of wrinkles.

What is Microneedling?
It is a skin treatment procedure that involves an electric skin-needling device that contains very fine needles. It is used during micro-needling procedures to break down old scar tissue and push skin cell generation. Cell production leads to the creation of new layers of elastin and collagen fiber and leads to improved blood flow in the skin.
How does it work?
The device penetrates the upper layers of the skin to a depth of up to 2mm to create tiny needle wounds. This signals the body to respond by producing collagen and elastin fibers. As a result, the skin becomes fuller, thus reducing the appearance of scars, lines, and wrinkles. It also allows rapid absorption of any skin products applied immediately after treatment.
Who should have micro needling?
Anyone who want s to improve conditions such as;

  • fine lines and wrinkles
  • uneven or rough skin texture
  • mild acne breakouts
  • acne scarring or other types of (healed) scarring
  • unwanted pigmentation spots and sun damage
  • stretch marks

What will I look like after treatment?
Most people will notice redness and mild swelling similar to slight sunburn for 24-48 hours and there may be slight pinpoint bleeding and/or bruising. Skin will be noticeably smoother and more radiant within a week or two. Full results will take a few months and 2-3 sessions to appear.
Is Microneedling painful?
Prior to the treatment, numbing cream can be applied to minimize pain that is felt during the procedure.
What results can I expect?
Micro-needling can be safely repeated every 4-6 weeks until you achieve the desired results. For collagen induction we recommend to start with 3 treatments, but with a minimum separation time of 4 to 6 weeks between treatments. For scar reduction an average of 3 to 6 treatments are recommended. The number of treatments required will depend on how each individual responds to the treatments, and the extent of the damage at the beginning. Most people will begin to see results after the very first appointment.
How many treatments will I need?
Typically a course of 3 treatments every 6 weeks is normally recommended, although in cases of moderate to severe acne scarring 5-6 treatments may be required. A good skin regime such as ZO Skinhealth will help maintain results.
What should I avoid on my skin after treatment?
To ensure the right healing environment, for 2-3 days do not use AHA’s (glycolic Acid), retinol, acidic or “active” ingredients. Exposure to sun should also be avoided or zinc based sunblock should be used.
What are the possible side effects?
Slight inflammation of the skin which is very temporary and reduces greatly within a few hours. It may remain slightly pink for up to 48 hours after treatment. Using hyaluronic acid after the procedure can help reduce inflammation, and sunscreen can be used to protect the skin. Makeup use should be limited to mineral makeup
